Methodology
Sample. 154 U.S. contractor/home-services homepages sourced from organic search across ~20 cities and 12+ trades (roofing, plumbing, HVAC, electrical, remodeling, landscaping, painting, concrete, fencing, decks, siding, flooring, garage doors, pools, tree, windows, gutters, foundation, masonry, waterproofing, solar, pest, epoxy, handyman, general contracting). Directories/aggregators and national-brand portals were excluded to focus on independent local firms. 145 were successfully graded; 9 could not be fetched.
Scoring. Each homepage scores on the Contractor Website Grader's six weighted categories (see table). A category score is the share of its signals present; the overall score is the weighted sum. Grades: A ≥ 90, B ≥ 80, C ≥ 65, D ≥ 50, else F.
Detection. Signals are detected in homepage HTML using the same patterns as the Codivox website analyzer, plus contractor-specific heuristics.
